Featured Artist - Celestine

Hello friends! For this week's artist feature, we have Celestine! They are an amazing and remarkable painter, photographer, and ceramist! Celestine loves creating portraits and breaking down the barriers created by the society around us. Let us get to know more about them in the following blog!

1. What is your name, age, and location? Any fun facts about yourself and your hobbies?

Hello! I'm Celestine and I'm a queer 17-year-old photographer. I love taking portraits and macro shots. I've been taking photos seriously since October 2020. You can find my work and contact me on Instagram @sepia.sapphic!

2. How did you first get into art?

I've been an artistic person all my life. I've done almost any art media you can think of, but primarily I paint, take photos, act and make ceramics. I've enjoyed documenting what I find beautiful with my phone camera since I've had it but since march and the pandemic started, I really got into photography in more depth. In August, I got out my mom's camera and started learning how to use it, going straight to the manual after I learned about ISO and which knobs did what. I started using it almost exclusively in October and joined a group on Instagram for teen photographers and it's been super fun to get to know these wonderful artists. I've learned a lot from them.

3. Who or what are your biggest inspirations that motivate you?

@ lea_visuals on Instagram, because I absolutely love her style and we've become friends over the months. we have a lot in common :)

4. How do you plan on using your art to spread awareness or make a difference in the world?

I really love taking meaningful photos that break down barriers. my photo "Bloom Brain" was about growth during these times.

5. What is your favorite piece of art that you have created so far?

I have at least three favorite photos: "cast out the shadows vol 2", "Sammy", and my "color outside the lines" series.

6. What are your current or future goals with your art?

I really want to do paid shoots for people after the pandemic. currently, I have five lined up but they're just for my portfolio, and all my friends. I don't think ill make a career out of an art field but I 100% want to do it in all my free time.

7. If you had the opportunity to spend a day with your favorite artist, who would it be and why?

I would spend the day with either one of my photography friends or (big shift) Ben Platt because I absolutely love his work as an actor and singer, and his being unapologetically queer is so inspirational to me.

8. Do you have any advice or tips for people that are interested in art?

My tips for people are you don't need good or fancy equipment to take good photos! I took one of my favorites with a ten-year-old red headlamp and editing skills :)

Here are a few examples of Celestine's brilliant work:
